A train service operates from Vila Real de Santo Antonio in the East, to Lagos in the West, stopping off at Tavira, Olhao, Faro, Albufeira and Silves along the way.
It is very cheap and quite a pleasant way to see some of inland Algarve. It may not be for those in a hurry though.

A comprehensive network run by the state-owned Rodoviara National covers the whole region, including the smaller villages, and the fares are very reasonable.
For long journeys it is far quicker to use one of the express services run by private companies, but you will need to buy a ticket in advance.
Various express coach services run to Lisbon from Albufeira, Faro, Portimao, Lagos and other main cities.

New Portuguese taxis are cream in colour, older ones are black with a green roof. You can usually find them in the centres of towns and resorts, if you need one from somewhere else then you will need to call for one.
The fares are reasonable by European standards, and the fare list must be displayed inside each taxi.
